For many people, and for a lot of very good reasons, the desire to go organic in the food they eat and the products they use is a very important goal. For these individuals, the vaping market offers organic e juice, but this is also a very popular option for even those who aren’t as health conscious.
The reality is that organic e juice isn’t all that hard to produce because of the limited number of ingredients in the juice itself. Most of the top brands of e-juice only use PG or propylene glycol, VG or vegetable glycerin, flavoring, nicotine and perhaps some distilled water.
To create organic e juice choosing an organic grade of vegetable glycerin, eliminating the propylene glycol, and using only certified organic flavors and nicotine turns an already simple recipe into an organic e-juice.
The Difference in Organic
To be considered organic, the foods or individual ingredients in a product have to be grown and processed without the use of chemicals. This means no chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides or other types of chemical processes.
It also means that artificial flavors and chemicals cannot be added during the processing or production. This allows for a pure flavor without any risk of a residual chemical flavor or alteration of the flavors during steeping or during vaping because those chemicals are simply not present.
As a carrier or base for the nicotine and the natural, organic flavors many companies use an organic ethyl alcohol. However, it is also possible to find a wide variety of organic e juice produced without the use of ethyl alcohol if this is a concern.
The VG Issue
In traditional vaping liquids, the vegetable glycerin is mixed with the propylene glycol to thin the e-juice. 100% pure vegetable glycerin is a thicker juice that produces great quality vapor but also tends to be more difficult to vape. It is also more prone to leaving residue in the e-cig, resulting in the need for more frequent cleaning.
To address this issue, many brands offering organic e juice offer customers the option to either add a percentage of propylene glycol (which is by nature not organic and rather a solvent used in many different products) or to thin the vegetable glycerin using small amounts of distilled water.
There is one important consideration when choosing organic e juice that all vapers should be aware of. The natural acids found in fruit extracts can react with plastic tanks causing them to crack or melt, so it is recommended to use these organic products using a glass tank.
