When you’re uncomfortable with your female body and strongly associate with the male gender, you need to take various steps to complete your transition. While hormone therapy and working with a therapist are critical first steps, you may wish to undergo physical changes in the future. If you’re considering transman bottom surgery, it’s critical to understand what is involved before you make a decision.
Hysterectomy
One of the first types of transman bottom surgery you may wish to undergo to start your physical transformation is a hysterectomy. During this procedure, doctors will remove your ovaries, fallopian tubes, and uterus. While this surgery alone isn’t enough to complete the transition, it is an excellent first step when supported by hormone therapy to begin allowing your body to make changes itself.
Vaginectomy
Removing the internal reproductive organs is just one step in your transman bottom surgery. Your doctor may also perform a vaginectomy to remove the vaginal cavity and close off the opening. This process can often be completed at the same time as the hysterectomy. Your doctor will recommend the appropriate timeline for each step and whether it would be best to do both together or let your body heal in between.
Penile Creation
The final aspect of your transman bottom surgery is to create a penis. This process is completed in several steps. The first step will use your clitoris to create a small penis as a starting point. Your doctor will then use skin grafts from the forearm, belly, or thighs to build the smaller penis into an average size. Penile implants may also be used. This procedure typically requires multiple surgeries to arrive at the final result.
