Many college students enjoy swimming. They might wish they could have a swimming pool at their residence instead of needing to use the university pool. Having this feature so conveniently located would provide extra motivation to get healthy exercise. One possibility would be to move to UGA off campus housing with a pool large enough for lap swimming.
Advantages
By having a pool so close by, students aren’t restricted to the university’s schedule for open swim hours. There’s also no need to go back to campus.
Swimming can be a particularly effective strategy for improving and maintaining physical fitness. Socializing around the pool is fun too, allowing for extra time with friends and for meeting new ones.
Laps
A frequent recommendation for this kind of exercise is a mile per day. Dividing the number of feet in a mile by the pool’s length in feet is the first step in determining how many laps equal a mile. Dividing that number by two is the next step, since a lap requires traversing the length twice.
If this lap requirement seems too large, half a mile could be suitable.
Other Activities
On days when the weather is uncooperative for swimming outdoors, students might go to the university pool instead or switch to a different type of activity. Some UGA off campus housing complexes have tennis courts and a fitness center. It’s easier than ever to stay in good physical condition even while completing a rigorous academic schedule.
