Living in Salem, OR, you have almost certainly seen commercials featuring celebrities with the whitest and brightest of smiles. If you do not have perfect teeth, if your smile is marred by stains or simply dull teeth, you may feel quite self-conscious. If this is the case, you might consider the treatment known as teeth whitening.

Whitening your Teeth
If you want to whiten your teeth, talk to your dentist. He or she may be able to perform this procedure. If not, your dentist can easily recommend a local cosmetic dentist. While it is true, you can purchase over the counter (OTC) whitening kits, they do not represent the same level of whitening power as those provided for by your dentist. While the FDA defines any material that is capable of cleaning the teeth beyond its natural state as a whitening agent, your dentist does not adopt the same definition.

When it comes to whitening your teeth, dental clinics and their teams actually bleach the teeth using either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. Teeth whitening is the preferred term since teeth bleaching conjures up various negative and harsh images. Many dentists offer you the perfect whitening solution in one of two forms.

Types of Dental Whitening Techniques

If you decide to go to the dentist to have your teeth whitened, you may end up discussing the best method for your situation. Two basic types or approaches to dental whitening are the in-office and the at-home.

1. In-Office: This type of whitening procedure involves the dentist working on your teeth inside his or her office. He or she first applies a gel or paste whitening agent to your teeth. In conjunction with this, the dentist often employs a light/laser with the intent of speeding up the treatment. With or without the light, you will have to return several times until your teeth are as white as you want them to be.

2. At Home: If you live in Salem, OR, your dentist may allow you to take the specially and custom-designed whitening kit or tray home with you. You will be given clear and complete instructions on how to employ the items properly. As is the case with the in-office treatment, you will need to use the tray daily for several weeks.

Be sure to consult your family or cosmetic dentist about what method will best suit your lifestyle and condition of your teeth.

Teeth Whitening

If you lack the perfect smile and it stems from dull or stained teeth, you do have alternatives. To regain a smile that will restore your confidence will require you working with your local Salem, OR dentist. Talk to him or her about your options. In many cases, you will, implants veneers or other major dental work. Instead, you will undergo teeth whitening at the office or in the comfort of your own home.
