Most people don’t particularly enjoy going to the dentist. Children can be particularly nervous about the experience. As any parent knows, a frightened child can be difficult to manage. Here are 4 tips for helping your child enjoy the dentist in the West Loop.

1. Be Calm Yourself

It’s important to set a good example for your child. Be sure not to act anxious about your own dental visits. If you are nervous when you go to the dentist, your child will likely mimic the behavior. You should be as calm as possible. Hopefully, your child will behave the same.

2. Avoid Scary Language

There are a number of scary words associated with the family dentist in the West Loop. Don’t talk about “pain” or “drills” or anything that might perk your child’s ears up in a bad way. Use positive language instead. Focus on “health” and “fun”.

3. Practice Good Oral Hygiene

Being a parent is a lot of work. It’s easy to see how certain things can fall by the wayside. Don’t let oral hygiene be something you let slip. Verify that your children brush their teeth every morning and every night. You should also teach them how to floss and include mouthwash into the routine.

4. Start Young

You should get your child used to the dentist’s office by starting them young at around six months. Schedule an appointment with a family dentist in the West Loop at Pure Dental Spa. The sooner they experience the dentist, the more comfortable they will be.
