If you are scheduling an appointment to receive some dental implants, you are going to want to know some of the things that you can do in order to take care of them once you are home. To help you with this, you will want to take a few moments to review the following helpful hints.

Use an Ice Pack
You might find that you are going to not only be in some pain, but that you might experience a little bit of swelling. This is something that you might have to deal with for a few days after the implants have been put in and it is completely normal. However, this does not mean that you are going to want to ignore swelling. You can use and ice pack or a pack of frozen peas. Apply it to the swollen side of your face and leave it there for about thirty minutes. You can then apply your ice pack or frozen peas every hour for about ten minutes or so each time.

Practice Proper Oral Hygiene
Sure, you might be a little sore, but you are still going to want to make sure that you are practicing proper oral hygiene. You will want to brush, floss, and use mouthwash everyday like you normally would. However, you might want to take it a little easy with the brushing and flossing around the newly implanted tooth. This is because your gums around that area will be a little sensitive for a few day. Just brush and floss lightly so you are preventing cavities while also preventing further irritation to that area.

Watch For Infection
You will want to make sure that you are keeping an eye out for infection. While it is rare, it can happen, and you will want to make sure that you are seeking prompt dental help if that happens. Your gums may look red and irritated when you first get home from having your implants put in. However, the area should look a little better each and every day. If you notice that it is starting to look or feel a lot worse, or you begin to notice pus, you will want to immediately call your dentist.

As you can see, there are a few things that you will want to do in order to ensure that you are able to care for yourself and your dental implants. All you have to do now is schedule an appointment with a dentist at The Art of Dentistry.
