Is Rebuilding Your Transmission a Good Investment?

14530917_lA failed transmission is always an unfortunate problem to have. If your transmission has failed, you face a difficult choice: whether or not it is a good investment to have your transmission rebuilt. This is a choice that will vary depending on your situation, including your means and your needs as well as the condition of the car and the transmission.

While there is no real hard and fast answer for whether or not you should rebuild your transmission, there are a few things you can take into consideration and answer for yourself when making the decision. In this article, we’ll look at a few of those things, and hopefully by the time we’re done, you’ll have more clarity about the decision.

Question 1: What is It Going to Cost?
This is not a question that can be reliably answered by anyone but your mechanic. While it’s undeniably true that a rebuilt transmission will not be cheap, it’s also true that what kind of transmission it is and how badly it is damaged will have a profound effect on whether or not rebuilding it is a good investment.

Question 2: How is the Vehicle Overall?
Beyond simply looking at the price tag of the transmission rebuild, ask yourself a bigger question about the vehicle. What kind of condition is the vehicle in? Does it really make sense for you to invest a substantial sum of money into it?

If the vehicle is otherwise in good condition, the answer is probably yes; after all, a rebuilt transmission is still likely to be a great deal cheaper than a new car of similar value. On the other hand, if the vehicle also has a great deal of additional wear and tear, you may find it makes more sense to cut your losses and spring for a new vehicle.

Question 3: Does the Vehicle Still Meet My Needs?
There’s one other thing to think about here, and that is how well the vehicle suits your needs. Some people may find that a failed transmission is a good sign that it’s time to buy a bigger vehicle to accommodate a growing family. For others, it may be time to buy a car that gets better mileage and will help them save money in the longer run.

There really is no right or wrong answer for everyone, because everyone’s situation is different. You may decide that the vehicle is worth keeping because it serves your needs perfectly. On the other hand, you may find that it is out of step with your present needs and lifestyle, and it simply makes sense to buy a new vehicle instead of rebuilding the transmission.  For more information you can visit Trans Works Transmissions or you can visit Google+ profile.
